When I watched a recent news story about a large number of people killed in Nice, France during a celebration, my heart ached. Someone at church said to me, “Andrew, you travel often. Aren’t you afraid about how unsafe the world is?” I thought for a moment before answering, “No. I’m not afraid. I know where I’m going when God calls me home, not one day sooner or one day later than God has determined.”
The thing is, it’s very easy to be afraid if we aren’t walking closely with the Lord. We see terrorism and we see violence in the news, and it’s easy to be consumed by it. To become petrified for our safety. But as followers of Jesus, we are guaranteed our spot in Heaven. There is nothing--no violence and no terrorism--that can take away our salvation. So what should we fear? Nothing! The Bible says in Psalm 23:4, “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me”.
I urge you to rest in God’s peace. Remember that as a follower of Jesus, you are already guaranteed eternal life in Heaven, and that changes everything. Your peace in the face of the condition of this world gives you authority to joyfully share the Good News and reach your world. This is Andrew Palau.
