This sermon will focus on Joseph’s encounter with an angel of the Lord. After finding out Mary was pregnant, Joseph planned to divorce her quietly. He wanted to follow the law and not harm Mary (which is why he wanted to do it quietly). However, there is no doubt he also knew what he would face (alongside her) if they were to stay together while she was pregnant. Yet, when confronted in a dream by an angel of God, Joseph accepts his role as Mary’s husband and Jesus’ earthly father. There is no doubt what others will think and say about him and her, yet Joseph steps out and is obedient to God’s call. Are we living with the same kind of dedication to God? Are we more concerned with what God thinks or what others think?
