One way or the other, we We all experience days where we feel down, anxious, exhausted or discouraged. Sometimes life doesn’t work out the way we plan, as we face many unexpected twists and turns and ups and downs.
John 14:27 says, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
The peace offered by the world is an empty promise and can only bring temporary comfort. God’s peace is a permanent and offered by the creator of all universe who can be trusted.
Who is the source of your peace? If you tried to make peace based on the world, you will be disappointed. The creator of all universe also says, don’t let your heart be troubled. You might experienced troubling moments in life, but God promised to comfort you in every situations in life.
There are many instances in the Bible where we read of God’s people who are discouraged, at times even depressed. Some want to give up on life, some run away from situations, some are so sad they don’t know what to do next. Even Jesus was deeply troubled in the Garden of Gethsemane.
But the good news is that God meets His people when they are discouraged. Hagar was troubled when she was fleeing from her mistress Sarai. Moses was discouraged with Israelites grumbled. The prophet Samuel was depressed about king Saul’s disobedience. Elijah was deeply stressed and wanted to die after prolonged persecution and a death threat from Jezebel. Are you feeling discouraged?
