In today’s powerful episode of Joy to the World, Pastor Michael Essiful shares an encouraging message from John 14:1-6, reminding believers of Jesus’ profound words in one of His most difficult moments: “Do not let your hearts be troubled.”
The sermon begins with a reflection on Jesus washing the disciples’ feet and how He chose to comfort His followers instead of seeking comfort for Himself despite His impending suffering, betrayal, and abandonment. Though the disciples would soon abandon Him in His darkest hour, Jesus still reassured them that they should not be troubled, showing His deep love and concern for their peace.
Pastor Michael highlights two key lessons from this passage:
1️⃣ Jesus and the disciples had enough reasons to be troubled—yet He told them not to be.
The disciples were facing uncertainty, fear, and confusion. Their teacher, whom they had followed for years, was about to leave them. Jesus Himself was heading toward the cross, yet instead of dwelling on His suffering, He instructed them to believe in God and believe in Him. This teaches us that, even when life gives us every reason to be troubled, our faith in Christ anchors us in peace.
2️⃣ Jesus has secured the future with the promise of coming back for us.
In John 14:2-3, Jesus speaks of preparing a place for His followers and assures them that He will return to take them with Him. This promise gives believers hope that no matter what happens in the present, their future is secure in Christ. Just as the disciples had to trust in this unseen future, we too must hold onto God’s promises when we face trials.
Pastor Michael encourages listeners to hold onto faith in difficult times, trusting that Jesus is always present and has already secured our future. No matter the troubles we face, we can rest in the assurance that He is preparing a place for us and will come again.
This episode is a heartfelt reminder that peace is found not in the absence of trouble but in the presence of Jesus.
