Do not take more

than a gander,

at the intrusiveness

of her lugubrious face.

As you whirl with

a partner across

the wider vista of

the dance floor,

embracing both

passion and music

in your arms.

For she is a wallflower

quite self conscious

and longing for such

a joining with you.

She has yet to bloom

in the spring filled beauty

of human nature,

that shares in

the growth of love.

She withers,

her tulips petulant,

in the lonely shadows

that line the brick wall

where she has

planted herself.

But if a sudden urge

to cultivate seeds of hope,

in the barren fields

of her dreams

strikes you,

coax her gently

from her desert of despair.

Transplant her

in the warmth of your arms,

sharing a sunny smile,

and watch her blossom

into that breathless loveliness

she has not yet revealed
