John 5:19-20 Then Jesus answered and said to them,
"Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of
Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever
He does, the Son also does in like manner. For the
Father loves the Son, and shows Him all things that He
Himself does; and He will show Him greater works than
these, that you may marvel."
● To be a son implies a relationship.
● A relationship can take two forms.
○ The first is a positional relationship.
■ This relationship simply means you are
a child of God.
■ You are a child of Mr. Jones. The child
may never see his father in this kind of
relationship, but he is still the child.
○ The second is living relationship.
■ A living or vital relationship means that
there is communication, dialogue, an
exchange of thoughts and feelings,
sharing experiences, sharing vision and
goals between two people.
■ Mr. Jones and his children
communicate, see each other and
express feelings to one another. They
each know how the other thinks, feels
and acts. This is a living relationship.
○ Some Christians, who may have a positional
relationship with their heavenly Father, do
not necessarily have a living relationship
with their heavenly Father.
● For a person to be led by the Holy Spirit means
that somewhere this person is getting to know
God.
● They have fellowship with God.
● They know Him and take on His character and
nature.
● To be born again qualifies a person to be led by
the Spirit of God, however, the believer must
develop a relationship with God in order to walk in
the fullness of His leading.
Philip in Acts 8:26 Now an angel of the Lord spoke to
Philip, saying, “Arise and go toward the south along the
road which goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.” This is
desert. 27 So he arose and went. And behold, a man of
Ethiopia, a eunuch of great authority under Candace the
queen of the Ethiopians, who had charge of all her
treasury, and had come to Jerusalem to worship, 28 was
returning. And sitting in his chariot, he was reading
Isaiah the prophet. 29 Then the Spirit said to Philip, “Go
near and overtake this chariot.” 30 So Philip ran to him,
and heard him reading the prophet Isaiah, and said, “Do
you understand what you are reading?”
● Philip found himself running to the Ethiopian's
chariot, getting him saved and baptized. The next
moment he found himself caught away by the
Spirit to show up in another town.
● There is no limit to what God can do with a person
who pleases Him by listening to and obeying the
voice of His Holy Spirit.
