What makes your internal metronome tick?
Living at a sustainable, consistent, and grooving pace is not easy. There are so many things that get in the way. When the world feels like it's spinning out of control, with unending noise, increased levels of violence, and catastrophe after catastrophe.
There is also stuff in our personal lives: daily worries about finances, relationship troubles, illness and grief. Not to mention certain pressures to conform to ways of doing and being, expectations from others about what you should be doing. All upon the backdrop of the shiny distractions and the latest trends on social media, creating in us a "look-squirrel!" attention span.
These things drown out the tick. The metronome get's lost. The groove slips away.
You end up moving at a pace that doesn't fit your song. Perhaps you're trying to squeeze your natural trip-hop break beat vibe into the deep house rhythm that someone else is playing.
All this stuff completely drowns out the tick. The metronome. The groove. And eventually something has to give.
“To consort with the crowd is harmful; there is no person who does not make some vice attractive to us, or stamp it upon us, or taint us unconsciously therewith. Certainly, the greater the mob with which we mingle, the greater the danger." - Senenca
Until you know your rhythm and can groove within it with confidence and freedom, the danger of the crowd is that it completely drowns it out. When this happens it will feel like you're unable to cope and that there is something wrong with you. This is not the case.
In this episode of the podcast I share the first part in what will be an ongoing series of bonus posts about living in sync with your natural rhythm.
Over the next couple of months I'll be working on some extra videos inside Patreon, on the theme of finding your groove, changing the pace of your life to fit you as an individual, and ultimately understanding what makes you tick and how to let that have a powerful impact on your life.
