Jesus utters a crucial sentence to his followers in John 14:!5. He says "if you love me, you will keep my commandments". You will hear these words from Jesus in one of two ways: as a warning, or as a promise.

Far too often we can become legalistic in our view of God and find ourselves striving to obey out of fear or self-righteousness. We may try and try and try our hardest to obey God because we want to be accepted and loved by God. When in reality, we can do nothing on our own to earn salvation. Obedience, true obedience, comes from a heart that loves Jesus.
