Do You Want to Be Made Well?
“When Jesus saw him lying there and knew he had already been in that condition a long time, He said to him, ‘Do you want to be made well?’” — John 5:6.
Jesus approached a man who had been paralyzed for thirty-eight years. He was lying beside the pool of Bethesda, waiting, hoping, but growing weary. No one helped him. No one seemed to care. But Jesus saw him. Jesus knew exactly how long he had suffered. He knew the man’s story, his disappointment, his pain — and then asked him a question that might sound unnecessary: “Do you want to be made well?”
But Jesus wasn’t asking for information. He was stirring something deeper. He wasn’t only concerned with the man’s body — He was reaching for his heart. That same question echoes today: “Do you really want to be healed? Do you want to be free from what’s paralyzing you inside? Are you ready to let Me touch what others can’t see?”
Like that man, many of us are spiritually stuck. We feel overlooked, helpless, or forgotten. Over time, we may even get used to feeling spiritually numb. But Jesus doesn’t forget. He knows how long you’ve been waiting. He knows how heavy the burden has been. And He’s drawing near.
Then comes the command: “Rise, take up your bed, and walk.” And the man obeys. After thirty-eight years, he stands up and walks. The bed that once carried his pain, he now carries as a testimony of God’s power. That’s what Jesus does — He changes the story completely.
The healing Jesus offers is whole. It starts in the heart and moves outward. When Jesus heals you, you don’t walk the same, live the same, or think the same. Those who truly hear His voice and believe in His word stand up and move forward. They don’t stay where they fell.
Maybe you’ve been waiting too long. Maybe shame, addiction, fear, or spiritual fatigue has left you stuck. But today, Jesus asks: “Do you want to be made well?” It’s not about having all the answers or being strong on your own. It’s about trusting His word and responding in faith.
So pray with honesty. Lay it all at His feet. Let His grace do the work in you. And when He speaks, stand up. Walk into the new life He has prepared. Because the true sign of spiritual healing is that you don’t stay where you were — you rise and follow Him.
