Self Control

Does Systemic Racism Actually Exist? A Conversation With Journalist Rachelle Elsiufi

Listen Later

Rachelle Elsiufi is a Canadian journalist with CBC, based in Ottawa. At the time of this interview, she was working with CityNews in Edmonton and contributing to the documentary "VeraCity: In Their Own Words."

Rachelle covered a series of public altercations that took place in central Alberta in fall of 2020. Anti-racism protestors were met with violent opposition on multiple occasions in Ponoka and Red Deer with the RCMP being accused of allowing it to happen.

Where defines systemic racism? Why does systemic racism and white supremacy exist in Alberta? What can be done about the ongoing conflicts? Rachelle touches on all of this, having seen it first-hand and talked to those who feel victimized.

VeraCity: In Their Own Words can be seen here.
