A new report from a coalition of educators suggests it’s time to rein in ambitious students (and their families) when it comes applying to the nation’s top colleges and universities.

Leslie Brody of the Wall Street Journal talks with EWA public editor Emily Richmond about her reporting on the group’s recommendations, which include urging schools (and parents) to put a greater focus on developing well-rounded students who demonstrate a commitment to the public good, rather than padding their resumes with personal achievements.

But will this clarion call carry any weight? How are colleges and universities already rethinking admissions practices with an eye toward greater diversity, especially on the socioeconomic and racial fronts? And how does this fit into the forthcoming U.S. Supreme Court decision on affirmative action?
