Does Windows Defender Slow Down Your PC? The COMPLETE TEST!

Listen Later

Does the common antivirus Windows Defender slow down or harm your computer's (PC) performance? In this video review, I test out the full performance impact of Windows Defender on your PC, whether a Windows laptop, desktop, tablet, or whatever product Microsoft invents which falls in between those devices. To test the service, I run a couple synthetic benchmarks, but also many real-life test including (but not limited to) launching and loading programs/apps, installing programs/apps, transferring files from different hard drives, and encoding/rendering with the Adobe suite.

How much does Windows Defender impact your computer's performance? Did the results surprise you? Leave a comment below with your thoughts!

Antivirus software is commonly believed to be a 100% necessity in protecting your PC (Windows desktops and laptops) from malware (viruses, ransomware, adware, etc...) My previous video explores this claim more in-depth, as well as addressing the counterargument, which claims you don't need an antivirus whatsoever. Hopefully this video will more or less settle the antivirus debate in the privacy and security community:
