Publisher's Summary:
A German Shepherd police dog witnesses a murder and if his owner - an Iraq war vet and former cop-turned-thief - is convicted of the crime, the dog could be put down.
Few rival Andy Carpenter's affection for dogs, and he decides to represent the poor canine. As Andy struggles to convince a judge that this dog should be set free, he discovers that the dog and his owner have become involved unwittingly in a case of much greater proportions than the one they've been charged with.
Andy will have to call upon the unique abilities of this ex-police dog to help solve the crime and prevent a catastrophic event from taking place.
David Rosenfelt, a native of Peterson, New Jersey, is a graduate of NYU. He was the former marketing president for Tri-Star Pictures before becoming a writer of novels and screenplays.

Wanna have some fun?
The Book: You don't read one of Rosenfelt's Andy Carpenter novels hoping for some profound insight. They likely will never win some hoity-toity award. You should read them because they are just plain entertaining. Some have excellent plots (like this one) others not so excellent... but they all are just a fine way to spend a few hours laughing and they are never ever boring. Wanna spend about eight hours doing something fun? Just for you? Buy and listen. A-
The Reader: Ahhh Grover. There is just no better voice to read Carpenter. Rosenfelt changes tenses about every six minutes, and Grover keeps up. Yeah... Grover suffers doing some characterizations... but who cares? HA! Wait 'til you hear him do Larry king. It's a hoot! In some books this would be important and even ruin the whole book. Here no. He so captures the tone and goofiness that is the Carpenter crowd... I pray he will be around forever. A.
Don't Buy This Book! Even though it's GRAAAATE!
Dont buy this book! If if you have NOT read Rosenfelts Andy Carpenter series from the beginning. Okay, this novel sizzles. Its tightly plotted, the dialogue sparkles, the ensemble cast work tighter together thana Super Bowl defensive line. I reeeeely like these people. And Grover Gardener brings them alive. I cannot imagine anyone else playing smart-ass attorney Andy Gardner. Nope change that I dont want to imagine anyone else.
The thing is that while Dog Tags stands alone, it refers back from time to time to cool stuff the characters did in early books. Which might spoil them for you. Soooooo dont take the chance.
If youve listened to (in order) Open And Shut, First Degree, Dead Center, and Play Dead well, wuddahell Get Dog Tags listen and lovvit. Otherwise Treat yourself from the beginning and... Dont buy this book! Kay?
Tail-wagging good!
I downloaded this audiobook because, like the protagonist, I'm a "dog lunatic," but in addition to the canine appeal, I also found an engaging story and a main character with a surprisingly sympathetic, yet amusingly wise-ass personality. Could anyone else pull off, with a straight face, a client meeting with a German Shepard? I'm going to start from the first in the series now that I've found this author. In addition, the reader has a great voice that seems well matched to the story. Definitely two paws up!
As usual, quite wonderful
David Rosenfelt has won my heart with his 'doggie' mysteries. I was so very happy to discover this latest one.
