“You are not your ideas”
Are you doing something in a particular way because you have tested this is the best way to do that task or because this is the way you have always done it?
It can be easy to conflate our ideas with ourselves, instead here at MYP we teach leaders and coaches to see ideas merely as tools that can be tested, changed, evolved or discarded. When we attach too much meaning and importance to our ideas and beliefs, it hinders us from growth. We can become defensive and protective, rather than allowing ourselves to be challenged and moved by new ideas and concepts.
Instead, we encourage you to move to a “doing the best we can with what we currently know model”. This approach allows you to change course when a better idea or understanding becomes available.
