Club 23 of 92 in Burnley.

Burnley is one of the oldest clubs in England, playing professional football as early as the 19th century, and one with FA Cup and First Division titles under their belts. In more recent years however, they've been the ultimate yo-yo club; too good for the Championship, too bad for the Premier League.

Fresh from dropping into League 2 this year, the Robins aren't having the best couple of seasons. Sitting lower-midtable, they are struggling on the pitch - looking to avoid the dreaded double relegation - and off the pitch to engage punters.

In this episode, James and Daniel speak to James Young, head of Cheltenham's supporters trust about some of the problems surrounding the club. And they also discuss the light at the end of the tunnel - new investment is being sought not just at the club, but also in the entire region, with around £1bn set to be pumped into business in the local area.

Tucked away in the West Midlands, the Sadlers fly somewhat under the radar, surrounded as they are by the likes of Aston Villa, West Brom, and Wolves. Now in League 2, they find themselves looking upwards at a potential promotion push, but their best work might actually come away from the match day. 

In this episode, James and Daniel discuss Walsall’s ‘Beat The Block’ program, set up as an aid for suicide prevention. Daniel attends one of the free football sessions the program runs, complete with Walsall first-team players in the dugout, and brings back tales of what it’s done for the participants.

Club 19 of 92 is Fleetwood Town. 

Known as ‘the Fishermen’, the coastal Fleetwood Town FC are one of the smallest clubs in the EFL by crowd size - their home at the Highbury Stadium barely gets 5,000 through the doors. Nevertheless, in the last few years, they are a club that has fought above their weight, climbing out of non-League to League 1 (before relegation to their current place in League 2). And their manager is a familiar face: former Liverpool, Stoke and Blackpool midfielder Charlie Adam. 

In this episode, James and Daniel discuss how the club have overachieved in recent seasons, from bold managerial choices to the emergence, goals and sale of Jamie Vardy. And we hear from Charlie Adam himself on dealing with grief during his playing career, and his start to life as a first-time manager.

The original 'Invincibles', PNE started life in the 19th century as one of England's elite clubs, doing the league and cup double without losing a game in 1888/89. However, this kind of success didn't quite make it to the 20th or 21st century.

Preston have now been ensconced in the middle of the Championship for over a decade, finishing between 10th and 14th seven times in nine seasons. Joining James and Daniel to discuss this mediocrity is Jack Tucker of The Butter Pie Podcast, as we ask who is to blame for the clubs stagnation, and whether there are any bright sparks in the team.

AFC Wimbledon rose from the ashes of Wimbledon FC, the club stolen from the community and airlifted to Milton Keynes. A couple of decades later, they're playing each other in League 2, with the Wombles having undergone a remarkable journey back to the EFL in record time.
