Since submitting her Michaelmas Song Writing Competition entry ‘Return Home’, Taliya Hafiz (Music; St Mary’s College; 2020-2021) has gone from strength-to-strength within the DOMAN community! Alongside studying a Masters at Durham University Music Department, the Mary’s student has also allotted composing for the European Association of Tatar Woman (“Tatar Hanim”) and competing with Durham University Dancesport into her busy schedule! Though only just being able to start attending Durham University (due to the current COVID climate), it is clear to see that the events of the last year have not dented her drive to produce transcendental music in the slightest.
In this episode of the DOMAP, Alumni Relations Officer George Bone sits down with Taliya to talk about: her drive to create music through the pandemic, the importance of empowering female musicians and the artistic ramification of being a multi-linguist!
