A Donegal TD is highlighting concerns over proposed fishing quotas for 2026.
TD Pat 'The Cope' Gallagher says countries like Norway, Iceland, the Faroe Islands and the UK have overfished in the North Atlantic severly impacting the likes of Killybegs
He further Norway alone are 55% above their fishing quotas.
Deputy Gallagher says actions like these have led directly to proposals from the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea to reduce quotas for Irish fishers.
The Donegal TD says this could potentially cost Ireland upwards of 150 million lost catches.
Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, Food, Fisheries and the Marine, Timmy Dooley says the nation needs to take ation to protect the important fish stock.
