Following the weighty and difficult opening paragraph (vs. 1-4) John presents the tests of a vital Christianity in verses 5-10. We claim that we have a walk with God, but can we prove it? The way we handle our sin is evidence of our fellowship with God. Obedience doesn’t save us, but it reflects a changed heart.
