Several years ago I wrote an article called "Everybody Knows." This article described 10 things that everybody knows in education and in society, but for some reason won't talk about or even do anything about. When we start to believe certain theories and philosophies for no other reason than they seem like a good idea at the time we drank the Kool Aid and the long term consequences begin to become the norm and not the exception. In this episode we cover the Kool Aid of disrespect and how slowly over time we almost have been forced to put up with unruly kids which has done nothing more than to change our disrespectful children into disrespectful adults. Educators are beginning to lose ground and in reality can be blamed for the condition of schools which is unfair. We can't continue to be muzzled. The Kool Aid may look good at the time but the thirst for respect will quickly return.
Episode 2 covers how we have bought into the idea that self control is an organic problem. Self control is taught and it needs to be dealt with like any other discipline problem; with consequences. The link below "Self Control There Is Nun Better" lends some clarification to my points in this episode.
