Don’t Fall Away, Stay All the Way
David W Palmer
(Matthew 24:3 NKJV) … The disciples came to Him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?” ...
Jesus’s disciples asked two questions about the end of this age: When? What Sign? In answering, Jesus wanted to make sure that he warned them about some huge traps set by the enemy; he included the theme: “Don’t Be Deceived” —especially as the end of this age approaches and frantically fights against yielding its rule on earth to Jesus:
(Matthew 24:4 NKJV) And Jesus answered and said to them: “Take heed that no one deceives you.”
So, how do we avoid deception during this time of “sorrows” or birth contractions and shaking?
(Matthew 24:5 NKJV) “For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many.”
Don’t be deluded by the “fool’s gold” of fake glory, counterfeit anointing, lying signs and wonders, or the usurped authority of false Christs. Scripture also warns us against false apostles, false prophets, and false teachers. Make sure you know and are fully familiar with the true ministers and the true Christ—the Lord Jesus Christ of Nazareth.
2. See that you are not troubled
(Mat. 24:6 NKJV) “And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass …”
This time of shaking and sorrows may be disturbing, worrying, and troubling for those who are not in Jesus’s kingdom; but for us who are, we can fully trust him and rely on him—remembering to cast all of our cares on him … for he cares for us.
3. See that You Don’t Grow Cold and Fall Away
(Mat. 24:9–13 NKJV) “Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name’s sake. {10} And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another. {11} Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many. {12} And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. {13} But he who endures to the end shall be saved.”
Many will be offended, fall away, betray Jesus’s followers, and even hate them. This means that amid the shaking, sorrows, and tribulation, you could experience the pain of being betrayed by those you love and even hated by them. But Jesus is warning us not to let this pressure and rejection lead to a cooling down of our love. Our love must continue hot for God and his people. The only way we can do this is to draw near to him, rely on his strength, and express the love he has poured into our hearts (Rom. 5:5).
