The 2020 Democrat presidential candidates have started to criticize some of you who listen. They tell you that you do not have the right to own guns. Some candidates suggest the ATF buy back and confiscation of your guns. The 2nd Amendment gives you the right to bear arms. Podcast 91 will look into the push to abolish your rights and why you don’t give up your guns.
In the wake of the recent deadly mass shootings, Democratic presidential candidates are stepping up calls for the federal government to start buying firearms from gun owners, with Beto O’Rourke and others going as far as seeking a mandatory buyback program for assault weapons.
The 2nd Amendment: Don’t Give Up Your Guns
The 2nd Amendment is part of the primary fabric of our Constitution. As essential as the First Amendment, the Second Amendment was protection on many fronts. The Second Amendment states:
“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”2nd Amendment of The Constitution
To put into perspective why our founders gave us the Second Amendment let’s remember what they had lived through. Under British rule, the colonies had been suppressed from an overzealous government. These men gave up everything for freedom.
God, Guns, and Guts
The founding fathers fought for freedom. Freedom that many in America take for granted today. I have always held to the belief that God, Guns, and Guts made our county great. All three are necessary. To expand on my point let me remind you of what Japan’s Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto said about America before World War II. Yamamoto stated, “You cannot invade mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind each blade of grass.”
Our founders knew we would have enemies both foreign and domestic. The 2nd Amendment was crucial for the protection of the people of this country. That is until this “woke” generation came along. The Millenial and Gen Z group want guns confiscated. They want you defenseless from criminals.
Speaking of criminals. 93% of gun committed crimes are by those who are not NRA members. To add to this statistic six-in-ten gun-related deaths in the U.S. were suicides. So it’s not the guns fault. What we have is a heart and mental health problem in our country.
The Real Gun Issue in America
Mental health is becoming more and more apparent in our country. True that stats from our past may not be accurate due to misdiagnosis. It is of no surprise that those who have a mental health issue use guns inappropriately. So would taking away all guns solve the problem? No. That is a very stern no. It would not solve our crime problem either.
Common sense tells you that if you take guns away from law-abiding citizens that only criminals will have them.
