Dont Let Underlying Physical Conditions Turn You Into a Psychiatric Patient

Listen Later

There is little argument, medical or otherwise, that prolonged loss of sleep can eventually result in delusions and psychosis.  Psychiatry in general does not seem to recognize this for what it is, labeling it instead as “schizophrenia,” “postpartum depression” or “psychosis not otherwise specified.”  The automatic psychiatric response to such a label is to prescribe antipsychotic drugs.  These drugs don't provide the patient the rest he needs, but overwhelm the nervous system so that the patient is incapacitated and docile.  A sleep-deprived person has not magically contracted mental illness.  They need to sleep.  The psychiatrist however, obviously lacking in comprehension of the basic causes and effects of life and health, misdiagnoses the person with a mental disorder, at which point they start on a path to being a psychiatric patient for life.  Find out about the connection between sleep and mental well being in this week's show and don't let yourself or your friends/family be misdiagnosed.
