Ho Hum - was hoping for a much better book after reading "One Man"
I read One Man by Andrew Gross and thought it was pretty good - a well written and suspenseful novel. While not perfect, it was a good read, so I thought I would read a few others by Mr. Gross. I read book one of this series and am most of the way through book 2 and all I can say is that it is quite disappointing. I won't give the plot away, but I had this plot figured out pretty early on. I also haven't really been able to connect with any of the characters and it's no so much that they are one dimensional but rather they are all over the place. I don't even feel like I know them. I was hoping for Ty Hauck to be a character like Harry Bosch or Jack Reacher from some of the other fictional series I have read which while not always believable, are at least a lot of fun and hard to put down. In these books, I can't quite figure out who Ty Hauck is. Is he an old washed up detective or a hot-shot gumshoe who you don't want to mess with? He's kind of both. And please...if I have to read one more book with cardboard evil businessmen as the bad guy, I think I might just lose my lunch. Not that bad from a pure writing perspective, but the plot and the characters are a real downer. Not really something I would recommend.
Great
Could be the most effective way to get the best out of your life with the crazy idiots who are interested in learning more about how writers think I'm people around them might think.Could not put it down
Nothing good... unlike The Dark Tide
I read The Dark Tide and was very impressed so was excited to get this book. Unfortunately Don't Look Twice was a big letdown. The plethora of interchangeable bad guys, the plot that while confusing also was utterly predictable, and the tacked on romance were three of the elements that ruined it for me. Enjoy The Dark Tide, but I recommend you don't look twice at the Hauck series and avoid this book.
Decent Read
Not quite The Grey Man but a character that you can identify with and enough action to keep you reading.
Don't Look Twice and Reckless
This review is for both "Don't Look Twice and the follow on novel by Andrew Gross "Reckless". It was quite surprising to find an excently written novel by Andrew Gross and then to follow it up with another utilizing some of the original characters and still have each novel stand on its own merits. Both had very engrossing and easy to follow plots with the reader being kept in a state of "suspense" and also some doubt about what was going to occur. In neither book was this reader able to ascertain ,with any degree of accuracy ,what the plot would end up looking like at the conclusion. They were such great reads on their own and also as a great follow on novel. Kudos to Andrew Gross Readers : Know that Mr Gross has outdone himself with these two novels
Both of these Novels as are all New Novels I purchase, from Amazon. Never have I been dissatisfied with the quality and service that they give to the consumer..
