Are you familiar with the idiom "Don't put all your eggs in one basket"?

Let's imagine: You put all your eggs in one basket, and then drop that basket on the floor. What will happen? Your eggs will break. You'll lose them all instantly.

The eggs in this idiom can represent anything, such as money, investments, jobs, ideas, hopes and dreams. For example, as an investor, if you buy stocks, you want to diversify your portfolio. Putting all your eggs in one basket is too risky. As a student, it's not a good idea to submit only one college application. It's like putting all your eggs in one basket.

I think it's a pretty good advice to follow, although I can think of one exception. If you're married, you should be putting all your eggs in one basket or be committed.
