In Deut. chapter 2, God gave Moses clear instructions regarding Sihon the Amorite king. "Begin to possess the land and engage him in battle". However it seems that Moses did what many of us do today: avoid confrontation and try to keep the peace. But God in His mercy would not allow Moses to avoid this confrontation.
