Reverend Smellie uses four principles to underscore not taking Harvest for granted:

1. Planting - there must be sowing before you can have reaping

2. Proportionality - there is a proportionate relationship between the quantity of sowing and the quantity of reaping

3. Perseverance - we must persevere through every obstacle, doing all we can while trusting God to do what only He can

4. Praise - the harvest celebrates the faithfulness of God and causes others to praise God through your work
