In a town where the only way to avoid working in the coal mines is to get a football scholarship, a group of boys dreamed of launching rockets. That's right, this week we are discussing Jake Gyllenhaal's film lead debut, October Sky, based on the inspiring true story. We cover topics such as the film's effective score, Natalie Canerday stealing the scenes she was in, and we pitch a sequel where a scientist parents living in a space town are dismayed at their son's predilection for digging and mining. Enjoy!

In a world full of lies, what is the truth? In a world where your fiancée brings two lies instead of one, can you pinpoint the fact? In a world where you have insomnia and can’t sleep, can you trust the pillow?
We don’t know and neither do you because this week we don’t get nearly so existential as we discuss this mid-aughts comedy film with our guest!

Strap on your shoulder pads and lace up those cleats because this week we are discussing Big Fan, Patton Oswalt's live action lead debut. We talk about our appreciation for movies that take risks with their protagonist's arc, a person's right to contentedness, and how doxing just isn't cool, all while Amanda continues her journey towards football fandom. Enjoy!

Rev up your lawnmowers (or your special weed flamethrowers) and take care of that overgrowth while you’re listening to this week’s episode about carnivorous plants. Or maybe you’d like to take the safe approach and stay inside to stay alive. Either way, tune in for some meaty survival horror discussions!

There's a little place where banks are robbed and pageants are staged, where love is found and confidences betrayed. That's right, this week Wade and Amanda are talking about Happy, Texas. The hosts discuss the perfect casting of Steve Zahn and William H. Macy, the wilds of Georgia, and the movie's fidelity to the asthetics of Texas gay bars. Listen and enjoy!

This week Amanda and Wade welcome amazing imroviser and actor Nick Trotter to the podcast to discuss the 1999 Jim Jarmusch classic film, Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai. The trio talk about the organic filmmaking of Jarmusch, themes of decay and incompitable, yet not completely unuseful systems of morality, and lots and lots of discussion about pigeons. Plus, our awesome friend Sama gets namechecked a few times. Listen in and enjoy!

If you are in a taxi listening to this, double check to make sure your driver isn’t an action hero. If not, you are cleared to continue listening to this episode about a 90’s nostalgic disaster action flick starring none other than Sylvester Stallone!

It is the 5th Monday of the month, so you know what that means: Bonus Episode! This time we are learning a little about the history of the B movie, Amanda takes a personality test that ends up being fairly problematic (tsk tsk, Buzzfeed!), and the hosts do a few improv scenes based of the descriptions of B movies from the 40s. Enjoy!

This week Amanda and Wade discuss the classic (or at least it should be considered a classic) romantic comedy Crossing Delancey starring Amy Irving, Peter Riegert, and Reizl Bozyk. The hosts talk about the brilliant performance of Bozyk - and what a shame we didn't get to enjoy her in more movies, a hilarious scene about a self-defense class, and the incredibly well-written characters and plot that feel deep and authentic, yet deceptively simple. If you are a fan of romantic comedies, you owe it to yourself to add this gem to your queue. Plus, pickles!
