On Wednesday, 11 February 1942, 32-year-old Doris Jouannet was murdered in the ground-floor flat at 187 Sussex Gardens that she shared with her husband. She had been strangled with a scarf and her naked body sexually mutilated. She would not be discovered until Friday morning of February 13th when police and her husband would walk into a horrifying scene.
