Doubting Thomas and the Gift of Faith

In John 20:27–29, Jesus appears to Thomas, who had previously declared he wouldn’t believe unless he could touch Jesus’ wounds. When Jesus invites Thomas to do just that, Thomas responds, “My Lord and my God!” Jesus answers with words that echo across the ages: “Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”

Thomas gets a bad rap, but many of us walk in his shoes. We wrestle with our doubts, wonder if God really sees us, and ask for signs before we surrender. But notice this: Jesus doesn’t shame Thomas—He meets him in his doubt. He invites him closer, offers the evidence, and strengthens his faith.

God does the same for us. Whether through Scripture, testimony, quiet prayer, or divine encounters, He meets us where we are—but always calls us deeper. Doubt isn’t the enemy of faith; it can be the doorway to a deeper encounter with Jesus.
