Dr. Andy Yarborough is a clinical psychologist, former executive pastor of a local Church and educator. He approaches diagnosis and treatment from a wholistic perspective, paying attention to how the physical, psychological, sociol/cultural, and spiritual aspects of a person interact and contribute to the presenting issues as well as how these aspects promote healing and growth. We wanted to give you an episode to usher in the new year with new tools in your tool belt. And in this episode, Dr. Yarborough delivers. We talk about the practice of mindfulness, the importance of self-awareness, changing your mental models or the way that you perceive and react to the world. If this sounds too high-level or academic, just wait — he teaches us through the timeless medium of stories. You won't want to miss this episode. Dr. Yarborough attended Regent University in Virginia Beach, VA, where he graduated with a Doctor of Psychology degree.  He moved to Baton Rouge in 2008 to complete his pre-doctoral internship with the Southern Louisiana Internship Consortium, which is comprised of LSU's Student Health Center and ELMHS (Jackson, LA).  He was licensed as a psychologist in 2011.  Dr. Yarborough has worked for Louisiana's Office of Citizens with Developmental Disabilities as a staff psychologist and as the Associate Clinical Director of [formerly] North Lake Supports and Services Center in Hammond, LA. He has been an executive pastor on staff at a local church and has also worked extensively with pastors and lay leaders to engage the church in spiritual formation and leadership development.  Dr. Yarborough has worked with people across the lifespan in a variety of settings, including children, adults, married couples, families, and geriatric adults in outpatient, inpatient, intermediate care, and church settings.
