Masks are now mandatory on public transport across the Auckland region, as well as domestic flights nationwide.

Anyone caught failing to follow the Government order, which was made on Monday and came into force on this Thursday morning, faces a maximum fine of $4000 or a prison term of up to six months.

This is not the first time mandatory mask wearing has been implemented and its a response to recent community outbreak of COVID-19 in Auckland.

Dr Api Talemaitoga is an Auckland-based GP, a member of the Pacific Medical Association and the Ministry of Health’s Pacific Response Taskforce brought onboard to assist during the COVID-19 pandemic.
