Nobody ever really enjoys admitting to being wrong, it’s much easier to blame others. Admitting when we are wrong and promptly being accountable for our side of the street is absolutely necessary in order for us to maintain our spiritual progress in recovery.

The best part about practicing the Tenth Step in our daily lives is that the more we are exercising self-discovery, honesty, humility and reflection, the less apologies and amends we have to make!

Taking a personal “inventory” in Step Ten means taking stock of our emotional disturbances, especially those that could return us to our acting out behaviors.

Step 11 is having “sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out”.

As a married and alone spouse, you have grown a lot as you have gone through these steps. You’ve already met God back in Step 3 and in the time since then, hopefully the two of you have become friends. In Step 11, God becomes the focus once more.

This step is about maintaining your relationship with God. God not only got you through your spouse’s intimacy anorexia and the pain from it, He wants to continue to walk with you on your journey. To do that, your relationship needs prayer (talking to God and sharing the things on your mind and heart) and meditation (listening to what He’s saying and being still before Him).

The second part is asking for His will for you for your life and the power to carry it out. It may not be easy, but He will help you do it.

Have the disposition that you are His child, that you are not the boss, that He knows what’s best for you. God is good and if you allow Him to lead you, He will help change the areas of your life for the better.

It’s time to focus on the principles of honesty, perseverance/self-discipline and integrity.

Nobody every really enjoys admitting to being wrong…it’s much easier to blame others. Admitting when we are wrong and promptly being accountable for our behavior is necessary to maintain progress in your healing journey.

As an intimacy anorexic, it’s critical to be willing to release selfishness, dishonesty, resentment, or fear as you’re taking personal inventory. Practicing Step Ten will help keep you aware of yourself and your patterns of withholding long before they take hold.

Here are some questions to ask yourself regarding personal inventory:

* Are there times in my life when I am confused about the difference between my feelings and my actions? Write about this.

* Have there been some times in my recovery when I’ve been wrong and not aware of it until later? What were they?

* How do my “wrongs” affect my own life? Others’ lives?

* Why is a Tenth Step even necessary? What is the purpose of continuing to take personal inventory?

* What does promptly admitting you were wrong mean- to you?

It’s not always easy admitting when you’re wrong. While it may be simpler to just shift blame onto others, it’s important for us to be accountable for our own mistakes. Taking immediate action wehn you do wrong is necessary to facilitate growth on your healing journey.

This is not about constantly needing to apologize to everyone, this is about being aware of thoughts, feelings, words, and actions that can harm you and others. It’s an inward reflection that helps you be more considerate of those around you. No one can be perfect, but they can become a better version of themselves.
