Description:

Have you ever wondered what the most important thing is when applying to residency? Have you ever asked the question if audition rotations or Sub-I’s are worth it? Today, we bring you an interview with Dr. Erich Anderer, a board-certified neurosurgeon who specializes in complex, reconstructive, and minimally invasive spine surgery as well as trauma and tumors of the brain and spine. A NYC native, Dr. Anderer grew up with a passion for science and neuroscience working and researching under Nobel laureate Richard Axel. Dr. Anderer is currently the chief of neurosurgery at a NY based academic institution, has sat on residency selection committees for orthopedic surgery, general surgery, and neurosurgery at two different institutions, and is an advocate for prevention and non-invasive techniques. In this episode we dive deep discussing his path to medicine, why he chose neurosurgery, his advice to those applying to residency, his recommendations for interviewing at different programs, what yoga and music mean to him, and why he is so passionate about his job.
