My guest today is Dame Jane Roberts has an extensive background in local government and in health. Councillor for the London Borough of Camden for 16 years, council leader from 2000 until 2005, Jane was appointed DBE in 2004 for services to local government. Chair of the thinktank NLGN (New Local Government Network). Jane started her career as a medical doctor and worked for many years as a hospital consultant in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

Jane Roberts DBE is Research Fellow in Public Leadership at The Open University Business School. A councillor for 16 years at the London Borough of Camden, she was Leader of the Council from 2000 to 2005. Jane has served in a range of non-executive roles including as Chair of the Councillors Commission for the Department of Communities and Local Government, a member of the Remuneration Board at the Welsh Assembly and Chair of New Local Government Network. Appointed DBE 2004. Professionally, she is a medical doctor and is an Honorary Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist with experience of senior healthcare management in the NHS. Jane has published a number of academic articles in paediatrics, psychiatry and politics. She co-edited ‘The Politics of Attachment’ (1996) with Sebastian Kraemer and is the author of ‘Losing Political Office’ (2017).
