Dr. John Jaquish developed an interest in life sciences when his mother was diagnosed with osteoporosis.  With a desire to help his mother avoid the side-effect inducing medications designed to treat the disease, he began his research.  As he progressed through his research, he realized that it was really a dysfunction of disuse and a lot of what are called ‘diseases of aging’ are really just diseases of not doing what you need to be doing to stay alive. Like exercise, moving around, keeping a decent heart rate, good blood flow, good airflow.  All these diseases of aging really don’t have much to do with aging. It just has to do with disuse.  With that, he set out on a mission to find a group of people who are outliers, who were able to build bone density, higher than anyone else? Super-human bone. He went and identified this audience immediately. It was gymnasts. It’s because of the rate at which they hit the ground–they sometimes get 10 times their body weight loaded through their hip joints and their lower extremities. He then built a device that emulates high impact and in that emulation of high impact, induces a change in bone density.  Eventually, Dr. Jaquish created a set of medical devices that compressed bone and now there are 130 clinics around the world that are just for this. It’s called OsteoStrong and they are in eight different countries.
