For over two decades, the Parkland School District has been an active participant in the United Way Employee Giving Campaign. This year's campaign introduces a new option for employees to contribute to hurricane relief efforts.

Marci Lesko, CEO of the United Way, noted that 20 United Way chapters are currently engaged in relief efforts for Hurricane Helene.

The Parkland girls' and boys' basketball teams both had remarkable seasons. The girls' team won the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference (EPC) and District Championships, and made a deep run in the State Tournament before falling in the semi-final round to the eventual state champion, Cardinal O'Hara. This was the furthest the team had advanced since winning the State Championship in 2006.

Meanwhile, the boys' team also made an impressive run, advancing all the way to the State Final - a feat not accomplished since 2004. However, they ultimately fell short, losing the State Championship game by just two points.

It's worth noting that the boys' head coach, Eddie Ohlson, was a senior on the Parkland team back in 2004. Interestingly, the girls' head coach is Eddie's father, Ed Ohlson Sr.

Vocabulary:

Sitzprobe - a rehearsal where the singers sing with the orchestra, focusing attention on integrating the two groups.

Foley Artist - A Foley artist is the person who creates this sound art. Foley artists use creativity to make viewers believe that the sound effects are actually real.  A student Foley artist is on stage and part of the SpongeBob show!

OMS STEAM Expo is May 9th - they are working on a hovercraft!  SMS held their STEAM Expo in April.  Students from the elementary schools visit to participate in hands-on science stations that are developed by middle schoolers.
