My guest, on this Table Talks episode of the podcast, is Dr. Mimi Hoang (she/her). Dr. Mimi is an internationally-recognized psychologist, educator, author, and grassroots activist specializing in the LGBTQ+ and Asian Pacific Islander (API) communities. Since the 1990s, she has co-founded three organizations in Los Angeles for bisexual, pansexual, fluid, and other nonmonosexual (AKA "bi+") individuals - the Los Angeles Bi+ Task Force, amBi Los Angeles, and Fluid at UCLA. Dr. Mimi has authored multiple publications and earned a seat at the landmark 2013 White House Bisexual Community Roundtable in which she presented on bi+ mental health disparities and this later sparked her focus on bi+ affirmative counseling and mental health. Her steadfast leadership has earned her multiple awards, including a feature in Jan Dee Gordon's LGBTQ of Steel photography book, being listed in "100 Women We Love" for Go Magazine, and being named “One of the Most Significant Women in the Bisexual Movement.” Dr. Mimi currently is the owner of Living in Color Therapy and works as the Program Coordinator of the LGBTQIA+ Affirmative Therapy Center at Airport Marina Counseling Services, and is the creator of the one-of-a-kind "Bi on Life" self-empowerment series.
