Listen Later

Today's guest is Rosanne Welch, author of America's Forgotten Founding Father: A Novel Based on the Life of Filippo Mazzei, an Italian immigrant who befriended Benjamin Franklin in London and then, moved next door to Thomas Jefferson's Monticello. Together, the men wrote many pamphlets supporting the American Revolution. In one of those we find Filippo was the first person in the colonies to coin the phrase, "All men are created equal," which Jefferson liked so much, he used it in the Declaration of Independence.
