The Royal Commission of Inquiry into Abuse in Care is looking into what happened to children, young people and vulnerable adults in State and faith-based care in between the years 1950 to 1999.

The Inquiry’s Pacific investigation hearing started Monday this week at the Fale o Samoa in Mangere where survivors of abuse from the Pasefika community testified.

The inquiry also commissioned reports including research into how government agencies recorded and reported on Pacific ethnicities within New Zealand and how the inadequacies of those recordings have affected our Pasefika communities.

That research was undertaken by Dr Seini Taufa who appeared on Wednesday to present her research findings.

Dr Taufa is the Research and Evaluation Lead for Moana Research, has taught in the areas of Social, Community and Public Health at Auckland University - serves on various advisory boards and is on the line
