Description:

It’s not often I find a guest similar to myself. Collegiate athlete, osteopathically driven to heal and prevent, someone with a passion for research and someone who sees themselves as a future academic physician. You all are in for a treat this week. Before I introduce our guest, I want to paint a picture for you. Image going to work every day in residency loving what you do. Loving the kids you work with and enjoying the conversations you have with your patients and their family. You are excited to learn and grow as the best clinical physician that you can, but you know you no longer feel like yourself. You miss your old hobbies, you miss who you once were, you miss having time to enjoy the things that make you, You. Today, I could not be more excited to bring you my conversation with Dr. Theresa Scott, a third year Pediatric Resident in New York who, amongst other things, is a passionate golfer, wife, and teacher. Dr. Scott and I have so much in common. She is on a mission to bring her hobbies with her throughout her medical training and she is already toying with the idea of remaining in Academic Medicine after training. In this episode, we dive deep discussing her path to medicine, her journey as a collegiate golfer, why she loves problem-based learning curriculums, why she chose to add an extra year to medical school, how she manages to balance work, golf, family, and marriage, and why she gives back to the golfing community.
