Dr Warwick Graco a Senior Director Operational Analytics at Australian Taxation Office (ATO). As part of his career working in Federal Government Agency – Medicare Australia, he built artificial neural network and multivariate statistical model to help identifying fraud and abuse within Medicare and pharmaceutical benefit scheme. During his career, he has also worked in Defense Department of Australia in the area called Decision Support. Over the years, he has published a number of papers and books involving the topics such as defense, strategy and analytics.
Dr Graco is currently the convener of the whole Government Data Analytics Centre of Excellence and Special Acquisition Group of the ATO Smarter Data Program.
His current interests revolve around knowledge acquisition, unsupervised learning and how-to subspace populations and do digital profiling.
In this episode, Warwick shared how data sciences are applied in the government agencies to help with the policy making and running the operations. This includes, but not limited to, some of the special task forces setup at ATO to combat the black economy and high crime. We also exchanged some views on the future cashless economy and how it would make a difference on the revenue collection by ATO in Australia. In addition to the above, he also discussed how class methods could be applied to understand different type of medical practitioners.
