Record heat across the US this year has been brutal. Dealing with summer heat and humidity can be tough on our pets, too. Our four-legged friends can be very susceptible to heat stroke when outside or burn their paws on hot asphalt while out on a walk. Today we will talk about keeping your pets safe and cool, signs to look for, what do to if your pet does gets overheated or heat stroke and other helpful summer related threats.
Dr. Wendy Ellis made the decision to become a veterinarian later in life and knew right away that it was a perfect fit for her love of animals and science. She became an emergency clinician right out of veterinary school and has been doing it ever since. A fan of the fast pace, case variety and problem-solving component of emergency medicine, she is gratified to send pets back home to their families. Dr. Ellis likes any case that challenges her to look deeper for answers to problems, but is especially interested in emergency surgery because it gives her the ability to make a difference in a matter of moments.
