The drastic trim may be rather shocking to look at but it's the final attempt to keep Sheet village's iconic horse chestnut tree alive following storm damage earlier this year.
The giant horse chestnut tree in the centre of Sheet by the village's Queen's Head pub has been there throughout many local resident's time in the village & indeed lifetime for some elders - it's a sad day but may be the tree's only hope of survival, whilst there's a common feeling that it may be time for a new tree if this one has lived its full life.
Jo Gray met local residents plus foreman & tree surgeon AJ who was the foreman on the big tree's big day (Thursday, 14 September).
