During the holiday season, it’s especially important for us to take care of ourselves because there are additional demands on our time and so many opportunities to indulge in rich foods and sweet treats. It’s all good! It’s just a bit too much goodness sometimes. ; )

Think of your life as a priceless gift that you have been given. Taking good care of it is the way you express your appreciation and make it last as long as possible.

Your happiness and well-being are gifts you give to others as well. When we are feeling good, and functioning at our best, we are more pleasant to be around. When we “put on our own oxygen mask first, we are more able to help others.”

When you think of it this way, and keep these gift images in the forefront of your mind, you will be inspired to do the things that serve you and the world at the highest level.

And yet, we all experience times in our lives when we know how we “should” be living, but we aren’t taking the necessary actions. In this episode I share some powerful practices for getting unstuck.

I recently heard an amazing and inspiring story of a man who overcame extreme childhood trauma and has become a successful motivational speaker.

His name is Anthony Trucks and he’s just published a book called Identity Shift: Upgrade How You Operate to Elevate Your Life.  It tells his amazing personal story and how he turned his life around to become the great success that he is today.

Anthony’s story demonstrates three powerful DreamBuilder Principles.

#1 Your history does not determine your destiny.”
#2 Your personal transformation -- who you become during the process of achieving your dreams, “your identity shift” is the greatest reward.
#3 God (A Higher Power) supports us on our journey when we pay attention and are willing to change.

I think many people are confused as to whether they should just visualize their new identity and then their behavior will change or whether they have to make all the changes in behavior in order to become the person they want to be. The reality is that it takes a combination of the two. This is what Anthony learned and implemented and how he created his success.

In DreamBuilding we visualize ourselves being the person we desire, and taking baby steps every day -- we live as if we are “that person” by doing what we can, with what we have from where we are.  And we have tools for managing the interference by our paradigms - our habitual ways of thinking and behaving, so that we can stay on track and accelerate our results.

Our results provide proof, and the evidence of success builds our confidence and faith in the process. Life becomes more peaceful and more fulfilling and then one day you realize that you have experienced an internal, personal transformation -- an “Identity Shift.”

Anthony made a decision. In the DreamBuilder Program we talk about the power of decision. He decided to start acting like the person he wanted to be, to make changes in his behavior and develop new habits.

And finally, one day, it dawned on him that he had a new identity.  He had experienced an “identity shift.” He had become the person he had envisioned being. The new way of living had become effortless because it was now a part of who he was.

And he had become a hero and inspiration to others. As I always say, “Be the change you’d love to see in the world.”

He didn’t accomplish all of this on his own. He had mentors (dare I say Angels from heaven?) along the way -- people who cared about him and told him some things that were hard for him to hear; but he was tired of living the same old, same old, and wanted to earn the respect of his children, so he was willing to do the work.

Are you one of those people who is always prepared for emergencies? For instance, do you have an emergency kit in the trunk of your car? Have you ever had an emergency and wished you’d had something you didn't have? 

Well, on our journey through life, we need an emergency kit also.

Even though we may have faith that we're connected to a Higher Power and can be directed to our highest good, “shit happens” as they say.  There are circumstances and people that will disappoint us and we don’t have control over them.  This is just a fact of life. And if we aren’t prepared - both mentally and physically, we might find ourselves thrashing around wondering what to do, and being agitated and upset.  

I’ve had a few experiences like this lately, as I shared in episodes #51 and #52 and I recently coached a client who was having one too and it occurred to me that it would be very helpful to create a little emergency kit for those times when you are triggered and want to nip it in the bud and take your power back.
