• Rabbi Kahaneman was born in Lithuania in 1886 and attended several Yeshivas growing up.
• He married the daughter of the rabbi of Vidzh and became rabbi there at the end of 1911.
• After 1919, he was appointed rabbi of Ponevezh, one of the largest Jewish centers in Lithuania, where he built three yeshivas and a school.
• During World War II, he visited Palestine but stayed to oversee Ponevezh Yeshiva from a distance. Later it re-established itself as one of the largest Litvishe in the world.
• He also sought to care for many orphans and refugees during this time and traveled widely to secure financial support for his yeshiva.
• He wrote Talmudic commentaries, an explanation on Passover Haggadah published after his death in 1969.
