Today's episode you will hear from Chelle Wyatt, who got hearing loss at 14 years old from scarlet fever or an autoimmune disease. Was it the ototoxic medications?
As a teenager with hearing loss her experience was positive inside the classroom, but totally lost when going out friends before the days of FM receivers which help communication between those with normal hearing and those who hear less. How she got into a marriage relationship where her hearing loss was used against her. Refusing to allow captioning, asking about country club membership across the room - which she did not hear therefore it was done and domestic violence situations reactions when she did not respond. No one deserves this response in life especially someone with a disability. Just like Elder Abuse is a never to be tolerated in my mind.
Hear about her first date at 23 years old feeling insecure with hearing aid paranoid, then standing up with 3 rules to hold a normal hearing person accountable for it they want great communication with a hard of hearing person to make a relationship work better with a Hearing Hero of Second Husband.
Learn how she had to give up her dream job and let it be a challenge to those you know as loud noise is the number one cause of hearing loss. How she transitioned into a new career as a Lip Reading Instructor when working for a state agency for Deaf/HOH when taking the class herself.
Then onto becoming an entrepreneur with Lip Reading Concepts. See Show Notes for this contact and other resources. Please subscribe and share with a friend as 60% of Iraq and Afghan War Vets came back with a hearing loss and CODAs could benefit as well.
