Thermal infrared drone technology developed by Monash University is being used to detect injured and entangled fur seals off the coast of Phillip Island. The drones can identify seals tangled in fishing lines and debris, as well as those with shark bites and other injuries. Phillip Island Nature Parks has called the technology a major breakthrough for conserving the protected species.
