Johns Hopkins public health researchers find that the prescription medications most prominently advertised on TV have low added benefit in the treatment of diseases they target. A full two-thirds of the 135 drugs most frequently pitched on TV, radio, newspaper, internet, and billboard advertising were typically not the first choices of mainstream clinicians. The drug ratings come from France and Canada since the US does not assess the comparable effectiveness of medications. What’s the 411 on this? Surprise. Surprise. The drug companies are force feeding these drugs into our psyches so that we’ll hound our medical teams into prescribing them. Guess what. This manipulation is working.
