Every adult in Britain will require a digital ID under plans to tackle illegal immigration.

Sky News understands that Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer could announce his backing for the scheme in a speech as early as Friday.

The so-called “Brit card” would verify a citizen’s right to live and work in the UK.

The plans would require anyone starting a new job or renting a home to show the card on a smartphone app, which would then be checked against a central database of those entitled to work and live here.

It is hoped this would reduce the attraction of working in the UK illegally, including for delivery companies.

At the moment, workers have to show at least one form of physical ID in the form of documents, but there are concerns within government that these can be faked.

South Korea said Thursday that North Korea may possess up to two tonnes of highly enriched uranium, enough to build a large number of nuclear weapons, despite years of sanctions.

North Korea is believed to possess up to two tonnes of highly enriched uranium, South Korea‘s unification minister said Thursday.

But in a rare public confirmation, South Korea‘s unification minister said that “intelligence agencies estimate Pyongyang‘s stockpile of highly enriched uranium – more than 90 percent pure – at up to 2,000 kilogrammes”.

“Even at this very hour, North Korea’s uranium centrifuges are operating at four sites,” Chung Dong-young told reporters.

“Only five to six kg of plutonium is enough to build a single nuclear bomb,” said Chung, adding that 2,000 kg of highly enriched uranium, which could be reserved solely for plutonium production, would be “enough to make an enormous number of nuclear weapons”.

The UK’s ministers are considering an unprecedented intervention after a cyberattack forced Jaguar Land Rover to halt production, leaving thousands of suppliers exposed to collapse.

A late August hack shut down JLR’s IT networks and forced the suspension of its UK factories. Industry experts estimate losses of more than £50m a week, with full operations unlikely to restart until October or later.

JLR, owned by India’s Tata Motors, had not finalised cyber insurance before the breach, which left it particularly vulnerable.

‘Hybrid Attack’: European Airports Again Shut By Second Night of Mystery Drones

Half a dozen European airports have been shuttered this week over the appearance of mystery drones, with the Danish government calling it a “hybrid attack” — the usual signal implying Moscow involvement — while also acknowledging they have no evidence Russia is involved.

Four airports — two of them with military airbases which include the home of Denmark’s whole inventory of F-16 fighters — were shut down for hours at a time on Wednesday night by the simultaneous appearance of mystery drones in their airspace, representatives of the Danish government said in a press conference on Thursday morning. It is the second time European airports have been “attacked” in this way this way this week, with major airports in Denmark and Norway also shut down by drone sightings on Monday.

The Norwegian government had some more luck this week. Following Oslo Airport being shut by a drone on Monday, they were able to capture it and arrested the owner — “a man in his 50s”, per Norwegian state media — for questioning.

It is not yet known whether the drone events in Denmark at Copenhagen, Aalborg, Esbjerg, Sønderborg and Skrydstrupand airports, and in Norway’s Oslo airport are related.

Denmark says they have contacted NATO over the flights and are considering triggering Article 4, the lines in the alliance’s founding treaty that obliges all members to convene a meeting to discuss an emerging security threat.

US Jets Scrambled To Intercept Russian Warplanes Off Alaska Amid Growing Incidents

Amid ongoing soaring tensions between the West and Russia, the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) scrambled American fighter jets to identify and intercept four Russian warplanes flying near Alaska.

NORAD indicated in a fresh statement that the incident occurred Wednesday, and involved a pair of Russian Tu-95 long-range strategic bombers and a pair Su-35 fighter jets traversing the Alaskan Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ).The US side sent E-3 early warning and control aircraft, and four F-16s and four KC-135 tanker planes, “to positively identify and intercept” the Russian aircraft – NORAD described.

The ADIZ is considered international airspace that borders US and Canadian sovereign airspace. Such an action by Russian aerial forces has become somewhat routine, but has occurred more frequently over the last couple years, also as war continues to rage in Ukraine.

As we detailed before, in September 2024 NORAD released footage of a Russian plane flying “within just a few feet” of US military aircraft near the coast of Alaska, prompting a general to say at the time that the Russian Su-35 plane’s conduct “was unsafe, unprofessional, and endangered all.”

NORAD has previously acknowledged that Russian bomber flights near Alaska occur “regularly”. But recently China has even begun to join some Russian patrols of northern Pacific areas, including areas extending near Alaska.

The EU Won’t Be Able To Keep Its Promise To Buy “Vast Amounts” Of US Weapons

. In summary, European growth will probably remain sluggish in the coming quarters, as the limited influx of new orders makes an acceleration unlikely.

Germany’s EUR83bn military procurement plan for the remainder of 2025 and 2026 is tilted heavily towards the purchase of European hardware, with only 8 percent going to American weapons. That is a significant break with the previous years and would imply that the EU may not be able to live up to its promise to buy vast amounts of US weapons (as touted by President Trump).

Whilst this may not get a warm response from the White House, from a ‘statecraft’ perspective, the shift towards domestic and European equipment is understandable, particularly given that Germany’s industry is having a hard time with capacity utilization in the capital goods sector, 3.5%-points below its long-term average. And although it could paint the EU/EC in a corner, we note that the EU-US agreement itself did not mention specific numbers for military procurement. All it said was that “The European Union plans to substantially increase procurement of military and defence equipment from the United States, with the support and facilitation of the US government.”

President Trump earlier this year fired over a dozen inspectors general in a late night purge shortly after he was sworn into office.

The eight fired inspectors general sued to get their jobs back and argued that Trump violated a questionable law passed by Congress in 2022.

The law requires a US president to notify Congress 30 days before firing an inspector general and to explain in detail the reason for the termination.

Judge Ana Reyes previously ripped into lawyers for the fired inspectors general suing to get their jobs back.

Judge Reyes previously tore into the lawyers for waiting 3 weeks to file a lawsuit and then demanding an emergency, same-day temporary restraining order (TRO).

A federal judge on Wednesday refused to reinstate eight inspectors general who were fired by Trump and sued to regain their jobs.

Judge Ana Reyes, a Biden appointee, said President Trump violated the law by firing the inspectors general, but she has no authority to reinstate them.

“[Under] well-established case law that this Court is bound to follow, Plaintiffs must show irreparable harm. And they cannot. Even assuming that the IGA comports with Article II, Plaintiffs’ inability to perform their duties for 30 days is not irreparable harm. Moreover, if the IGs were reinstated, the President could lawfully remove them after 30 days by providing the required notice and rationale to Congress,” Judge Reyes wrote.

The Democrats in Congress seem to have totally lost their way. They obviously have no idea what it means to put America First or to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN! All Congressional Democrats want to do is enact Radical Left Policies that nobody voted for — High Taxes, Open Borders, No Consequences for Violent Criminals, Men in Women’s Sports, Taxpayer funded “TRANSGENDER” surgery, and much more. Few people voted for what they represent, which would lead to the destruction of America. Instead, people voted for COMMON SENSE, and that’s what the Republicans and your President, “DONALD J. TRUMP,” stand for. I look forward to meeting with them if they get serious about the future of our Nation. We must keep the Government open, and legislate like true Patriots rather than hold American Citizens hostage, knowing that they want our now thriving Country closed.
