Dueling Pistols

In the middle of the night, Wesley pays a visit to Elizabet, Eli meets his son for the first time, and Lu is made a generous offer. As the sun rises in the morning, one couple has just gotten married while two pistols are raised; one to protect a friend, the other to eliminate an enemy.

Cora admits the truth about her past to Lu. Emma arrives at Lu’s farm asking for the repayment of a favor. Finding the door to the jail unlocked and Edward nowhere to be found, Eli and Wesley search the town and end up at Lu’s farm.

Emma visits and cares for Edward in jail as the mercury works its way through his system. Elizabet asks Emma if she ever thinks of leaving the business. Wesley holds a wake for Sheriff Peck and half the town gathers at the saloon, including Cora, who enjoys her first day off the farm.

Mayor Edward goes on a drunken rant before he makes an admission to Eli that Wesley jails him for. Emma cares for Edward in his delirium and then discusses matters of the heart with Eli over wine. Elizabet realizes it was Wesley who sent her the letter. Wesley’s father arrives to Hangtown to save the souls of the sinners.

Sheriff Peck and Mayor Edward disagree on the value of vigilante justice. Wesley shares his feelings for Elizabet in an anonymous letter. Emma tricks Edward into dropping his pants so she can check him for venereal disease. Upon learning new information about Edward, Sheriff Peck heads his way to bring him to account.

While trying to break up a bar brawl, Wesley shoots himself in the leg. Lu purchases a piece of farmland and she and Cora make a discovery while preparing the soil. Over a glass of wine, Eli and Emma share an honest conversation about where they’ve come from.

Edward visits Sheriff Peck at Dry Diggings with proof he has been appointed Mayor. Emma strikes a deal to open a brothel and then delivers the town’s first baby. Eli, upon his arrival, is delivered a harsh piece of news, while Wesley finally learns the name of the girl he’s been searching for.

Edward plans a future together with Sarah. Lu makes a deal with a party traveling west, agreeing to take Cora with her. Emma arrives in San Francisco at the same time as Edward who saves her from mischief on the dock. When demand for the news dries up, Wesley heads to Dry Diggings where he finds a new line of work.

Emma Davis saves the life of one of her prostitutes, but in killing a powerful politician, she is forced to set fire to her brothel and leave town on a ship to America. Searching Independence for his fiancé, Eli meets Lu on the day a ship in the harbor explodes.

A chance encounter with a young woman sends Wesley Clapp in the direction of San Francisco where he finds employment as a newspaper man. After Cora’s father is shot and killed, her mother sends her to live with her Aunt in Independence. Eli Guyot, her fiancé, leaves Madison to find her.
